Taquirah is a multifaceted artist — singer, songwriter, actor, choreographer, and model — whose artistry transcends the boundaries between sound and movement.
Originally from Illinois, Taquirah's journey into music began unexpectedly. A trained dancer who performed internationally, she experienced a career-altering concussion while dancing in Russia that left her unable to perform complex movements. In that stillness, she discovered a new voice — turning to poetry and songwriting as a means of expression and healing.
Music became my freedom. When my body couldn't move the way it used to, I found that my voice could carry everything I needed to say.
Her debut single 'Lonely,' released on SoundCloud, garnered unexpected attention and set the trajectory for a music career that now spans six years. Drawing from R&B, neo-soul, jazz, funk, and gospel, Taquirah crafts songs that are deeply personal yet universally resonant — exploring themes of love, resilience, gratitude, and self-discovery.
In 2023, she released her debut album Gemini In Mars, an 11-track exploration of duality and transformation. Her recent releases — including 'Grateful,' her powerful Tiny Desk audition featuring producer Daru Jones, and 'Rush Acoustic,' a jazzy love letter about patience in love — showcase an artist continually evolving.
Beyond music, Taquirah has expanded into acting with credits including A Life Unwritten (2025), Daisy in the Gun's Chamber (2025), The Recruit (2023), and Actors (2021). She continues to model and choreograph, bringing the same raw authenticity to every creative endeavor.
